Compact middle frequency heater for company Škoda Auto JSC Mladá Boleslav is used for induction heating of steel billets with circular cross-section up to forging temperature. The aim of the reconstruction was to increase the output of the original induction heater KSO 801/2,5-A40 from 800 kW up to 1000 kW. Therefore in the new heater KSO 1000/1,2-C20 the maximum amount of heated material has risen from the original 2080 kg/hr to 2400 kg/hr. Especially these parts have been changed: fuses and thyristors in frequency converter, units of frequency converter controller and starting and compensating capacitors.
Another customer´s requirement concerning the reconstruction was to replace the original manual input of cold billets by the automatic one and adjust it to the changed assortment of heated material as well. As a result of these renovations it was necessary to modify the inductor size to keep the outer dimensions of the original heater.
