Induction heater IKO 250/6 was reconstructed for Škoda Auto Mladá Boleslav company (cell #13) and it is used for induction heating of steel billets with circular cross-section up to forging temperature. The aim of the reconstruction was to shorten the length of the whole device keeping the original output.
A complete replacement of all components of the cooling system was made as well as the alteration of electric distribution. The heater box and the inductor were shortened.
When constructing the inductor, the method of rapid heating was used to keep the original output in spite of the inductor shortening. Together with these modifications the connection of the inductor was adjusted. Consequently the time of inductor replacement was significantly reduced (cca up to 10 minutes). The temperature of each piece is measured by a contactless thermometer and its value can be stored in PLC memory. The operator communicates with the heater by means of HMI panel where the operating heating parameters can be set. Also all failures of the heater are displayed in text on this panel. The original vibratory conveyor moving billets from the vibratory container to the jaw feeder was replaced by a new shorter and faster chain conveyor.
